Orangutan Release Update - The Journey To The Forest Begins!

Orangutan Release Update - The Journey To The Forest Begins!

Posted by Connor Whelan on 24th Oct 2016

Last week we brought you news of four orangutans who were due to be released back into the Bornean rainforest, and today we are delighted to be able to bring you an update on Rafli, Saprol, Jamur, and J-Lo!

Late last week these four apes began their journey back into the heart of the rainforest, and our volunteer coordinator Kate was there to wave them all goodbye as they start this new and exciting chapter in their lives!

Kate was lucky enough to get some footage of the ape’s departure from Samboja Lestari, so check it out here, but make sure you keep your eyes peeled for our update about the release itself which will be arriving very shortly!

I've been following all the releases since I volunteered at Samboja in 2011 when the place was full of Oranguans awaiting a secure place in the jungle to be released into. It's great to see that it was worth the wait. Best wishes to all at Samboja.

I was fortunate enough to be at Samboja Lestari to witness the beginning of this journey for the orang-utans, hard for them to understand it was the beginning of a new life where they could live out their days as they were meant to. It was very emotional and quite a few of us had tears (of happiness) in our eyes I wish them well for their brand new lives - Kate Stewart (the great projects volunteer)
