Over the past few months, volunteers have worked closely with the local staff to help the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation renovate and prepare a new island at Samboja Lestari.

A team effort saw the completion of a large concrete platform funded by volunteers.

Volunteers helped to collect and install multiple ironwood poles and hammocks.

The most recent group who joined the Samboja Lestari Orangutan Volunteer Project had the pleasure of completing the finishing touches to the platform.

Seeing their hard work pay off, the group later observed Jeffery sitting on the new beautiful platform - it's safe to say he approves!

Jeffrey will soon be joined by Yuyun. Together, they will be long-term residents of the island.

Their previous island will be renovated over the next two months to prepare for more orangutans to have a new home.

Thank you to everyone for playing their part in making Jeffrey and Yuyun’s new home so comfortable.

Well done Kate and the team!

Great to read continual progress is being made to enhance the lives of the Orangutans. Good to hear that Fleur also moved in to her new enclosures.
You are all an inspiration, especially Kate. I felt proud to do my bit when I volunteered last September (2024) and it is heartening to see this hard work and determination continues.
