In a world where things just pass us by and people are normally too busy to worry about what’s happening around them, we all need something to come along and remind us of the bigger picture. That is what National Wildlife Week sets out to do. Started way back in 1938 in America, the week (running from the 14th – 18th) is celebrating its 78th birthday and gives hope to animal species all around the world.
The aim of the week is to raise awareness of the plight of the animals we share our planet with and to see what can be done to help their struggles. More specifically National Wildlife Week 2016 is all about you! This year’s theme is Members Matters: Working Together for Wildlife and it is focusing on the contribution that individuals and communities can make to the wildlife in their own area. The potential number of things you can do to make a difference is almost endless. Whether it be something small like leaving some seeds out for the birds in your garden, or something bigger like volunteering with endangered animals abroad, you can help to make a difference.
Animals all over the world need our help, so join in the celebrations and help raise awareness of this wonderful week! Help us spread the word by sharing this blog or just by telling your friends. There are lots of ways you can help on your own or as part of a bigger group, so get creative and we’ll keep an eye out to see how you all have helped the wildlife!

Come face to face with one of the world’s most misunderstood predators whilst aiding great white shark conservation. As a volunteer, not only will you get the incredible opportunity to dive with sharks, but you will also assist the team in raising awareness of the great white as you work alongside tourists and local school children to provide them with knowledge of the local environment and the importance of living in harmony with South Africa’s marine life.
