Volunteer Leeann joined The Great Gorilla Project in January this year and recently got in touch to tell us her thoughts on the trip, better yet, she also sent over some incredible photos that we couldn't wait to share with you!
"The whole trip was a huge success. I had an amazing time which was a credit to The Great Gorilla Project team in Uganda. They went above and beyond to make us feel safe and welcome. The itinerary was perfect and each day was planned to ensure we had a good experience.
All of the accommodation was carefully selected and the food provided was exceptional. We were treated and fed like royalty. The staff involved were there for us 24hrs a day and catered for our every need. I was initially worried about covid but the staff made sure we had access to masks, hand sanitiser and made each aspect of the trip as risk-free as possible without it impacting our experience.
After our first gorilla hike finished earlier than expected Peter and Denis suggested a couple of things for us to do with our free afternoon. We all agreed upon a local coffee making tour. I must say this was superb and I don't even drink coffee. The tour took us from plant to cup with a tasting session.
I really enjoyed my time in Uganda, I only went for the gorillas but I received so much more. I have never had a holiday where I have felt so welcome and the local people have been so friendly.
I have seen first-hand how the local community benefits from the gorilla permit money. Which made me feel that the cost of the holiday was such good value for money.
I will definitely do this project again and will recommend it to as many people that will listen!"
A huge thank you to Leeann for her lovely review and wonderful photos.

Come face to face with one of the world’s most misunderstood predators whilst aiding great white shark conservation. As a volunteer, not only will you get the incredible opportunity to dive with sharks, but you will also assist the team in raising awareness of the great white as you work alongside tourists and local school children to provide them with knowledge of the local environment and the importance of living in harmony with South Africa’s marine life.
