Some of the most awe-inspiring animals in nature fall under the category of “Big Cats”, including lions, tigers, cheetahs, snow leopards, and jaguars. They are elusive, fierce, proud, and beautiful creatures that are unfortunately coming under fire in dozens of countries on multiple continents. The Big Cat Conservation Project is a comprehensive international effort to keep these animals safe, limit their contact with humans, protect their habitats, and work to eliminate the exotic animal product trade.
From the jungles of Peru to the wilds of the Indian bush, big cats have ruled the natural world for thousands of years, but the destruction of their habitats and the savage selfishness of poachers have driven many of these big cats to the edge of extinction. Protecting these species requires a varied approach depending on the local issues and environment, and the Big Cat Conservation Project is up to the challenge. Working on a team to protect these cats in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn, explore, and discover. Our conservation efforts include tracking and monitoring the movements of animals, and as a volunteer with the Big Cat Conservation Project, you will have the chance to wear many different hats – from animal keeper and game ranger to wildlife conservationist.
Learning about the habitat, local communities, conservation practices, legal frameworks, and imminent threats to big cat survival will give you a “big picture” understanding of this globally significant issue. For millions of years, big cats have been able to take care of themselves and rule the wild, but that reign is being challenged. Do your part and help protect some of nature’s most incredible species in stunning locations around the world. Click here to learn how you can get involved with Big Cat Conservation.
