The Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant Project in Borneo is one of the most interesting and rewarding volunteer projects of all. So, with 10% off on dates between the 21st of June and the 21st of August, what better time is there to consider taking part in this awe-inspiring animal adventure?

In case you’re a little unclear on what it is that makes the Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant Project so great, allow us to give you the low-down…

Awesome Animals

Elephant and baby

It’s fair to assume that the first thing on any volunteer’s mind, is likely to be wildlife. With projects all over the world, we provide volunteers with the opportunity to engage in vital conservation efforts across a range of destinations and with a plethora of fascinating animals. In terms of the animals you’ll see on this project, however, the clue is kind of in the name: by taking part, you’ll get to witness two of the most endearing species on the planet (the mighty orangutan and the adorable pygmy elephant), in addition to an abundance of other creatures. This project is often considered to be the most ‘wild’ of all, and is the only project where the animals can be spotted in their natural habitat – ultimately, you’ll be spending your days in the middle of the jungle, so there is a high possibility of seeing several different wild species! (Please note, however, that we cannot guarantee sightings of all jungle species.)

Creature Comforts

While there still seems to be a lingering stigma that volunteering trips = shabby standards of accommodation, The Great Projects aims to dispel that rumour and on The Great Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant Project, you’ll experience the life of a local, spending your evenings in a village B&B and having your meals cooked by villagers. This is as authentic as it gets, giving you optimum time to absorb true Bornean culture while still retaining levels of comfort. You will sleep in shared rooms with other volunteers, however, so remember to make friends with your fellow volunteers as well as the locals!

Inspiring Ethics

Orangutan

Each of our projects have varying purposes, but one thing is for sure: our ethics are solid, and rest assured that your time spent volunteering will make a world of difference to the communities you visit (and, of course, the animals you’ll encounter on your adventures!) If you’re somebody who wants to feel closer to nature and make a real difference to the world around you, the Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant project is a fantastic choice. With a large focus on reforestation and efforts towards protecting/reviving our rainforests, this project also has a strong focus on community outreach. It’s an all-encompassing way for you to make a difference, so if conservation is key, you should definitely give this project a go.

So, what are you waiting for? Head to our project page now and take advantage of our 10%-off offer, on dates between the 21st of June and the 21st of August! But remember, these projects are of limited availability…so act fast!
