In the past few decades, every sea turtle species in our seven seas has reach endangered status, and the threats to their survival show no signs of abating. Sea turtles are some of the most peaceful, elegant, and fascinating creatures in our oceans, but the impact of over fishing, pollution, and climate change has caused their numbers to plummet. The Sea Turtle Conservation Project is dedicated to protecting these precious creatures and revitalising sea turtle populations.
For the past 30 years in Sri Lanka, sea turtle conservation efforts have been in full swing, but the need for volunteers remains constant. The success of the Sea Turtle Conservation Project has been incredible over the past three decades, but as conservation pressures mount and more and more species are finding themselves on endangered or threatened listings, more help is always welcome. If you’ve ever dreamed of swimming with sea turtles, observing them in their natural habitats, or improving the chances of baby turtles surviving their epic trek from beach hatcheries to water, then your passion is in high demand. Why not make your next vacation a life-changing experience working with some of the world’s most beloved marine animals? The main responsibility of volunteers is to build and maintain the sanctuary and the hatchery for the sea turtles, collect and rescue turtle eggs, and make every effort to maximise the number of baby turtles that make it into the water.
To ensure that sea turtle numbers around the world continue to climb, dedicated efforts like those at the Sea Turtle Conservation Project are essential. None of the success this program has achieved would be possible without the devotion of volunteers.
