An Update From Uganda - Gedion Is Becoming A Master Carpenter!

Posted by Michael Starbuck on 14th Dec 2017

We have exciting news for everyone all the way from Uganda!

Gedion in Uganda

If you cast your minds back to September last year, we brought you an update on Gedion, the young man that The Great Projects are sponsoring through his education as a carpenter.

In case this is the first time you are being introduced to Gedion’s inspirational story, we will briefly recap what this remarkable young man has been through and just how dedicated he has been to get to the position he is in now.

Gedion Standing outside school

Gedion is now 14 years old, but he has unfortunately been deaf since birth. However, he never let this stop him and he continues to this day to make the best of his situation. After he graduated primary school, Gedion showed a fantastic desire to continue his education and we wanted to do all we could to help.

Gedion hard at work

Gedion decided to join a carpentry and joinery training course at a local education centre, and he has never looked back since! After doing extremely well in all of his classes last year, he has continued this theme and he got amazing grades in 2017 too! In his applied Technical Mathematics module he got 78%, in his Wood Work Practise Module he got 78%, and in his Constructional Drawing Module he got a whopping 80%! Gedion is well on his way to becoming a carpentry superstar and we can’t wait to see what he achieves over the next year!

We want to take this opportunity to not only say a huge well done to Gedion for achieving so much this year, but also to say a big thank you to any of our volunteers who travelled on The Great Gorilla Project as a proportion of your donations have gone towards Gedion’s education!

We are sure we will have another exciting update to bring you from this incredible young man soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more information.
