With 2021 drawing to a close, we thought we would share with you some uplifting updates from The Great Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant Project. As you may know, the main focus of this project is working towards the reforestation of the Corridor of Life, and restoration efforts here are proving to be successful, as you can see in the videos below:
This video taken by Mark Louis Benedict shows a Talisai Paya tree planted just eight years ago in 2013. Now, the tree stands at almost 15 metres tall and continues to grow bigger every day! One day, this tree will become one of the giants of the restoration site and will serve as rightful shelter and part of a home for Borneo's endemic wildlife.
The project team was also overjoyed to share some camera trap footage of various wildlife visiting the habit restoration sites in 2021. The footage below is a true testament to all the work undertaken by the team and volunteers alike!
A huge thank you to all previous and future volunteers for helping to provide a safe home for wild orangutans, pygmy elephants and other Bornean species that make up the island's incredible wildlife.
Feeling inspired? Come and plant a tree or three on The Great Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant Project and help make a real difference.

Come face to face with one of the world’s most misunderstood predators whilst aiding great white shark conservation. As a volunteer, not only will you get the incredible opportunity to dive with sharks, but you will also assist the team in raising awareness of the great white as you work alongside tourists and local school children to provide them with knowledge of the local environment and the importance of living in harmony with South Africa’s marine life.
