Julie Malley’s Conservation Adventure in Victoria Falls

Julie Malley’s Conservation Adventure in Victoria Falls

Volunteer Julie Malley spent three weeks at the Victoria Falls Conservation Experience. Her time in Zimbabwe included everything from animal tracking and alien plant removal to meaningful community outreach. Guided by passionate experts and surrounded by a warm, diverse group of fellow volunteers, Julie discovered a connection not only with the wildlife and landscapes but also with like-minded people who now feel like family. With highlights ranging from bush campouts to supporting a local medical clinic, this adventure left her grateful and already signed up to return in 2026.

Happy New Year, everybody! It’s hard to believe we’re right back at the start of a brand-new year, isn’t it? And with the weekend's celebrations, came farewells to December, as well as many resolutions and promises not to be broken by January (I swear I’ll go back to the gym this month, I really do…)

Atop many people’s list of resolutions, will have been the commitment to ‘travel more.’ And why not? Travelling is one of the most amazing things a person can do: with so much of the world to see, there’s always good reason to want to see more of it. But what if there was an even better way to travel?

Here at The Great Projects, we wholeheartedly believe that there are many ways in which to enhance your adventures. Not only do we have a multitude of amazing destinations just waiting to be discovered by you (with more trips to be added to our roster very, very soon!), but there’s a real heart to what we do…given the chance to explore with us, we’re certain you’ll agree!

So, what is it that sets our trips apart? Well, The Great Projects care deeply about several things – beginning, of course, with the wonderful wildlife to be found across the world. With conservation projects in destinations such as Africa,Borneo and even the Maldives, the number of animals requiring care from volunteers is almost insurmountable. By providing trips in such brilliant locations, we offer our volunteers to see some of the most breath-taking sights on the planet, all while creating a better life for such wonderful creatures.

We aim to immerse our volunteers into the most incredible of environments - from projects in the heart of the rainforest, to far-flung island havens, to dramatic desert plains – with destinations like these, there really is an adventure for everybody. Picture your life in the wild: you could wake up to the sounds of the jungle, spending your days assisting in vital orangutan enrichment. Or the crashing of the waves could be your wake-up call, as you look forward to days of diving alongside stunning marine creatures. The Great Projects will take you to places you’ve never been before, and will show you a whole new world of opportunity often considered unthinkable.

And these opportunities are only expected to grow in the new year. We’ve got fantastic trips lined up, such as our White Lion Conservation Project in stunning South Africa – monitor the elusive white lion; take part in valuable scientific research; meet the youngest members of the local community; and enjoy a number of fascinating game drives! We’re also looking forward to introducing our very first project in Mexico – keep your eyes open for that in the next couple of months, as you could soon find yourself visiting the beautiful Baja California Sur, and working with three incredible species of shark! We can’t wait to share these new projects with you, and we hope you’ll join us on the adventure.

So what are you waiting for? The only thing standing in the way of your dreams, is your own uncertainty – so why not make it your resolution to throw caution to the wind and explore? The world is a beautiful place, with its people wildlife just waiting to be discovered by you. Discover how you can make a difference by travelling with The Great Projects today.
