Wildlife Volunteer Opportunities

Thinking about taking a holiday with a difference? With our wildlife volunteer opportunities, you’ll be spoilt for choice – and your chance to make a difference to the world of animal conservation waits just around the corner.

With opportunities in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, our projects offer you the chance to aid wildlife conservation in destinations all around the globe. Whether you want to work towards the preservation of pandas, the survival of sloths, or the safeguarding of sharks, there really is a project for everybody. Not only will you be contributing to conservation efforts while on your project: a donation from your volunteer fee will help the project to continue reaching their goals, even long after you return home. If you’re somebody who’s always dreamed of making a difference to the world’s wildlife, then look no further than right here at The Great Projects.

What is volunteering and why do it?

If you love animals and are fond of travelling, then finding a way to bring those interests together may sound appealing to you. This is where volunteering comes in: with projects around the globe and with an array of wildlife species in need of your help, you can make a difference to the lives of threatened animals whilst also seeing a whole new part of the world. This is no regular holiday, of course – you’ll be working hard during your week in the rainforest or desert (or even out at sea!), but you’ll also be rewarded with a sense of responsibility and the knowledge that you have made a genuine impact on wildlife conservation efforts.

Who is it for and when to go?

No matter your age, ability, or where you come from, odds are we will have a volunteering opportunity for you. Over the years our projects have opened their doors to travellers aged 18 to 80 (sometimes younger, sometimes older!); they’ve invited solo travellers, families and groups to donate their time and efforts; and they’ve welcomed people of all abilities to contribute towards their goals. All we ask of our volunteers is that they have a willingness to work hard and get involved – so if you’re interested in taking part, why not check out our project finder? With projects available across 365 days per year, you’re sure to find something to suit you.

What types of activities are carried out?

As a volunteer, you’ll be expected to have a flexible attitude towards an array of activities, and an eagerness to get involved is key. Any given day could see you cleaning out enclosures or handing enrichment activities to orangutans; you might be tasked with building structures, or you may be asked to observe your favourite animal for a while! Not all activities are easy, but most are enjoyable, and you’re sure to create some amazing memories while getting involved. So, roll your sleeves up, get your hands dirty, and prepare to make a meaningful contribution to wildlife conservation efforts worldwide!
