One of our lovely volunteers from the Victoria Falls Conservation Experience has been kind enough to share her experience with us. See what Simone had to say about her time spent volunteering in Zimbabwe!
What was the highlight of your trip?
My stay on this project was a amazing experience. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming, I felt instantly comfortable and at home! The service that the staff provided was fantastic, the quality of food (I am vegetarian) that was served was delicious.
I cannot choose just one favourite moment, because it was a fantastic experience the whole time! But we were so lucky to watch three rhino mums with their babies feeding. That was just overwhelming!
Would you revisit the Victoria Falls Conservation Experience or are you inspired to visit any other projects?
I like to go back as soon as possible, because I really found a new family! It was hard to say goodbye to all my lovely new friends - except it was not really a ‘goodbye’, only a 'see you soon...'
Any tips for new travellers?
Be open minded, do not expect anything and you get the best time of your life! Also, this programme is perfect for those who are dedicated to making a difference - so get involved!
If you had to describe your trip in 3 words, what would they be?
Team spirit, enthusiasm, friendship!
Did the trip inspire you to help animal conservation in any other ways?
I've already worked/volunteered in different places before and do work as a volunteer in Munich. This place showed me again how important it is to support people like the team at the project, who really do amazing work!
And finally...why do you think people need to travel?
Travelling means meeting people from other countries with different cultures, languages, and religions. Travelling gives you another perspective of life and shows you what’s important in life. It makes you more open-minded, tolerant, and compassionate

Come face to face with one of the world’s most misunderstood predators whilst aiding great white shark conservation. As a volunteer, not only will you get the incredible opportunity to dive with sharks, but you will also assist the team in raising awareness of the great white as you work alongside tourists and local school children to provide them with knowledge of the local environment and the importance of living in harmony with South Africa’s marine life.
