We are thrilled to announce the launch of our newest project - 'The Great Whale Project'! Located in one of Europe's least visited but most exciting destinations, The Great Whale Project offers volunteers the opportunity to experience the spectacular volcanic landscapes of Faial Island, friendly people, great diving (even with blue sharks!), and of course plenty of whales and dolphins.
This programme which looks at both whale and dolphin conservation runs from April until October, and throughout you will be helping out in key marine conservation practices, including Photo-IDing of sperm (throughout the year), blue, fin, and sei whales (during the Spring period), bottlenose and common dolphins, as well as learning all the tricks of the whale-watching trade!
Project facilitators and keen marine conservationists Joanna and Tiago will guide you through every step of the way, sharing their passion for this incredible marine environment.
By joining this whale and dolphin volunteer programme, you will be supporting and contributing to vital cetacean research, data collection and conservation efforts within the Azores, which in the long run will help in cetacean research and conservation strategies worldwide. For more information about this amazing new marine project, please see the video below, taken by Rafael Garcia. Doesn't it make you just want to go?!:

Come face to face with one of the world’s most misunderstood predators whilst aiding great white shark conservation. As a volunteer, not only will you get the incredible opportunity to dive with sharks, but you will also assist the team in raising awareness of the great white as you work alongside tourists and local school children to provide them with knowledge of the local environment and the importance of living in harmony with South Africa’s marine life.
