What is volunteering and why do it?

Volunteering allows well-meaning travellers to visit some of the world’s most exciting destinations whilst also making a difference to the lives of at-risk animals by way of conservation. Your volunteer experience may see you working to rehabilitate an array of wildlife species in Bolivia, Namibia or Laos; you might even find yourself creating enrichment for orangutans in Borneo or feeding pandas in China! In short: volunteering connects you to a meaningful cause and allows you to help make a difference, in this case to an array of exciting wildlife species. What better way to spend your holiday?

Who is it for and when to go?

No matter your age, ability or group size, it’s likely that we have a volunteer opportunity for you! Each of our projects are suitable for solo travellers, but if you have children or are looking to travel with friends then we’re sure we can accommodate you. All we ask is that our volunteers have a willingness to work hard, are passionate about wildlife, and are keen to make a difference! What’s more is that we have projects running 365 days a year, so enter your preferred dates into our project finder and see where a volunteer experience could take you!

What types of activities are carried out?

Your volunteer experience could see you trekking through the Amazon rainforest, giving enrichment to orangutans in Borneo, or snapping photographs of African wildlife…each of these activities are just small examples of what life as a volunteer entails! There are other important tasks to be aware of, too (such as the day-to-day running of sanctuaries, food preparation, and cleaning of enclosures), and it’s important to have a can-do attitude when working as part of a team. If you’re willing to put your mind to all manner of activities, then you’ll certainly be able to get the most out of an already rewarding volunteer experience.
