This is a tour which really is all encompassing. During this trip you will get the chance to experience and explore Borneo by different means including boat and foot, enabling you to absorb the huge variety of wildlife on offer up close and personal. You will help the local people and the local wildlife by planting crops and visiting the Orangutan Sanctuary respectively. Borneo really is the gem in Asia's crown and this tour is the perfect way to explore it in depth.
You will depart from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu, where this tour starts and where you will get the chance to meet your team leader, for a two hour drive to the Crocker Range. Upon arrival at Kiau Village, you will be greeted by the village homestay Coordinator who will introduce you to your host family for the night with. You are then free to do as you wish with the day, go trekking, experience the traditional sports and games of the village or help the locals plant trees at their water catchment area. It’s up to you! In the afternoon, you will be shown how to make Rice Wine or how to sculpt your own handicraft before settling down for a dinner of a simple local dish. Stomach full you will head off to bed in one of the village home stay properties.
After waving goodbye to your host family, you will then depart for Kinabalu National Park which is a mighty 1,500 metres above sea level. Once settled into your accommodation you will be off exploring one of the many trails that lead through the tropical Mountain Oak and Chestnut Forest, taking in the menagerie of bird life and abundance of exotic plants on show. After lunch you get a chance to relax, with a short trek taking you up above the rainforest on the canopy walkway getting a Birdseye view of the wildlife below, before visiting the local hot springs for a chance to soak away the aches and pains. Later, experience the handling of a blowpipe and Batik Painting. Dinner is served at the Sabah Tea Plantation, where you will then catch up on any lost sleep.
Breakfast is served in the picturesque setting of the Sabah Tea Plantation with the chance to take in the glorious sunrise and lush surroundings of the rainforest that envelope the area. After your meal, you have the chance to take a guided tour to discover just how the raw rainforest tea leaves are transformed and packaged for export, maybe even grabbing a pack for yourself! You’ll then say goodbye to the Tea Plantation and with lunch en route you’ll be driven through the scenic countryside on your way to Kinabatangan. Drive done and a short boat ride will take you to your lodge when after a short rest you will be exploring the lower reaches of the Kinabatangan River which is packed with wildlife.
An early wakeup call is on the agenda today as you’ll be taking in the stunning sunrise accompanied by the huge variety of bird life which live along the river. After seeing the Kingfishers, you will be taken back to the lodge to check out before being taken by boat to Bilit Village to meet the locals. You will be cooking lunch with the Orang Sungai Tribe and later dining with them, absorbing the culture as you go. Goodbyes completed and you will be on your way to Sandakan, stopping off at the Gomantong Caves which is famous for its nesting Swiftlets. This really is a sight to behold. Next you will be able to rest your tired feet as after you’ve checked into the hotel the remains of the day are yours to do with as you wish.
A quick bite to eat for breakfast and you will be whisked out of the door and head overland to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Here you will meet Orangutans who have been rescued, orphaned or injured and are being helped back to full strength so they will be able to be released when strong enough. Once a short video about the rehabilitation process has been shown you will be able to feed the Orangutans as one last memory on the trip. After the tour is completed you will head back to Sandakan Airport to return home or onward to continue your travels.

Village Homestay, Kiau Village
You will be welcomed into the Kiau Village and have the rare chance to stay in a local home, really immersing yourself in the culture. The room comes with very basic necessities, but this will be all you need as you will be out and busy helping the locals! Simple, local cuisine will be on offer for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Sabah Tea Plantation
This relaxing room is placed right in the middle of the Sabah Tea Plantation and is the perfect location to absorb the sights and sounds of the surrounding rainforest. The simple yet comfortable fittings in the room will be welcoming after a long day of exploring. You won’t go hungry either as the food in the quaint restaurant will fuel you for your adventures.
Kinabatangan River Lodge
You won’t be disturbed in this remote lodge along the River Kinabatangan. The accommodation is rustic yet elegant and you will get a great night’s sleep amongst the wildlife along the river’s edge. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all provided for your stay at the lodge.
Set in the middle of the rainforest, the Sabah Hotel is the perfect place to rest your feet after four days of trekking around Borneo. The historic hotel is home to a luxurious pool and spotless rooms and the friendly staff will be more than happy to direct you to the restaurants for your meals.
Tailor My Tour
You will be collected from Kota Kinabalu by our representatives and you will then enjoy a two hour scenic transfer to Kampung Kiau (Kiau Village) to meet your village home-stay coordinator.

Meals provided throughout the tour will be a mixture of simple local cuisine in the more rural parts of the tour and more familiar foods in the larger hotels. This is great chance to explore the local culinary delights and for you to expand your taste buds.
FITNESS AND SKILLS
A moderate level of fitness will be required as some manual tasks may be performed when with your host family. Swimming and walking may also be required for certain parts of the trip.

The Malaysian currency is the Ringgit. The conversion rate is around 1 MYR to 0.19 GBP, 0.23 EUR and 0.31 USD.
